This piece has half of the right and left side panels incorporated into it as you can see in the picture the fairing splits below the upper radiator vent down about the base gasket at the cylinders

You see the gas tank shell goes on top of your gas tank eliminating the problem of the gas vapor seeking through the paint and spoiling your paint job
