Badenhorst Family Red 2012 Awards:Tim Atkin 93/100 LOUIS XIII cognac (70cl) hasA blend of 75% Shiraz, 12% Cinsaut, 7% Tinta Barocca, 3% Grenache and 3% Mourvdre, the wine underwent spontaneous fermentation in closed concrete tanks and was left on the skins for six months before being pressed into old large format casks for 16 months of maturation. The aromatics are gorgeous: red and black fruit plus that typical Swartland earthiness initially but then more lifted notes of flowers, dried herbs, pepper and spice.
