Japanese Choba Dansu - Taisho Era Finish - Red Lacquer This cooking strainer has developedThis Japanese choba dansu (or cho dansu) merchant chest dates from the Taish Era (1912 1926) and is made in the Osaka style. Cho dansu were used by merchants in shops for storing ledgers, money, and seals. Osaka & Kyoto were the centers of production for unconventional tansu like this one.
