Kang Low Cabinet From Tianjin - 19th Century Soft Furnishing seated on a stool andThis antique Chinese kang cabinet is from Tianjin area. It's constructed from catalpa wood (qiu mu, ) in the traditional Ming style and dates to the 19th century (Qing dynasty, 1644 1911). Kang cabinets like this one are ideal for use beneath a TV or sound system and date from the 19th century. These were used beside the Kang which was a raised stone platform used as a bed or lounging area in wealthy homes. Traditionally, this was heated from
