Tile of an Elk by Hamilton Italian Pottery The whimsical zodiac design seriesMade in the late 19th Century in Ohio this antique tile by Hamilton was made in the emaux obrants, or photographic style. The 4 1 4" clay square was impressed with an image and a single color glaze was applied. The glaze would pool in the recesses and thin over the highest points, giving the tile a look similar to a realistic photograph. It is made from a white dust pressed clay and is signed "HAMILTON OHIO" on the back. The surface remains shiny with
