The Hostellerie du Coq Hardi opened in 1880 and was famed for its food

in the 19th arrondisement

It became the place to be and be seen during the 1930s with everyone from royalty to showbiz frequenting the bar and restaurant

Chevron Hotel, Melbourne, Australia 1950s Cruise ship reporting on the new musicThe Chevron Hotel on St Kilda Road in Melbourne was originally constructed in 1934 and boasted 200 rooms with en suite facilities as well as garaging for guest's cars The hotel was built in just 18 weeks and ended its life as the ritzy Chevron nightclub hosting the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Sammy Davis Jr and Gregory Peck. The 'Chevy' closed in 2001 but the building still exists and is now known as the Chevron Green Apartments. Courtesy
