He was proclaimed missing in action and eventually pronounced dead

For that he was awarded this document and a bronze victor’s pin

noted that Fryer was a "well nourished man" and that the "grip of (his) right hand (was) considerably weakened"

Type IV with Wreath (1944 1946). Multi piece construction, in bronze gilt with red, white and green enamels, measuring 54. 5 mm (w) x 80 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath suspension, tiny chip and scuffing evident in the white enamels on the tip of the arm at 6 o'clock on the obverse, otherwise the enamels are intact, replacement full length neck ribbon, near extremely fine.
