Constructed of stamped magnetic sheet metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a pair of crossed swords, overlaying a plane and situated above a date of 1942, topped by an inscription of DEMJANSK and a German national eagle perched on top of a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn flanked by log pillboxes, affixed with four side clips to a magnetic metal backplate with a field grey wool liner and intact black paper backer,
